The Lord Mayor, Clover Moore MP had intended to launch the event but her recent foot injury prevented her from attending. She has been a great supporter of Sydney Cycle Chic as we are of hers!
Here is an extract from her speech.
"Hello, everyone, what a great day to be in Centennial Park! I’d like firstly to acknowledge the Gadigal people of the Eora nation, the traditional custodians of this land.
Cycle Chic started in Copenhagen a few years ago, and Saskia started it up in Sydney this year. But this is the first ever Cycle Chic for kids, and you’re all setting a terrific example of how people can get on their bikes and learn confidence and good bike riding skills while staying healthy and having a lot of fun.
The City of Sydney is building a bicycle network that will be safe enough for you to use, to ride to school, or the shops or here to the park and by the time you’re older, I hope you’ve all got the cycling habit so we can keep our City healthy and sustainable.
So I’m really pleased to see you here today and hope you all have a fabulous time! Thank you for being such great cycling ambassadors."
