Bike Pathé Presents......

This brilliant film shot on Super 8 echoes those old Buster Keaton and Charlie Chaplin silent films.  It follows an NYC bike messenger as he is derailed from delivering an urgent package by an alluring female cyclist.

Totally wonderful - enjoy!

Oh Kate Spade - How Delicious This Is!

What a wonderfully sunny way to start the week, this being Australian Fashion Week and all - fun, frivolous and flirty.

A lovely green Abici from Adeline Adeline in NYC, a cute leather Kate Spade satchel that clips to your handlebars, killer wedges and cupcakes.

We like.  A lot!

Bike Bag Bling

Ok so I'm pretty much a bike basket kind of girl.  I like them, they don't need explaining, they just work.
I had no reason to look further but then THIS little item pops into my inbox and now I'm all a fluster.

What was I thinking?  I mean I wouldn't wear the same pair of shoes with everything I own would I?  No I would not.

Handmade in Brooklyn by Hillary Taymour from Collina Strada the Barrel Moto Bag is available online from Free People (yes they ship to Australia!) and from February via the Adeline Adeline Bike Shop in NYC (mecca for all things bike gorgeous, don't say I didn't warn you).  Not cheap but very lovely.

Thanks to Design Milk for the heads up.

New York City Chic... From Behind

[Stylist, Actress and Fashion Lover Yana Kamps on 4th Street]

Ok so this site has been tweeted around lately but perhaps you've missed it and even if you haven't, it doesn't hurt to see it again.  downtownfrombehind is a brilliant photographic project capturing subjects riding their bikes from behind on every street below 14th in New York City.
These environmental portraits highlight Manhattanites who have had an impact on NYC, making downtown what it is today but more than that, they convey the feeling of a city in change.

Subjects have included designers, musicians, artists, restaurateurs, hoteliers, academics and activists.
It's a great concept and beautiful photographs and it celebrates a city which by all accounts from last night's CITYTALK 2010 is undergoing somewhat of a renaissance. (more on the talk tomorrow)

A Little Bike Porn for a Monday Morning

Design *Sponge really turns me on.  There I've said it.  Give me some nicely varnished floorboards, white bed linen and a vintage bike and I'm yours.

Pimp Your Ride #2 - sparkly bike

Well this is just lovely - mad but lovely.  I'm actually a bit surprised that I don't see more bejeweled bikes?  Where are you hiding?  I have a feeling you're out there somewhere?

It's tempting...... and a great way to pimp up an old bike.  All you need is some sparkly jewels and a hot glue gun - and who doesn't have one of those in the bottom drawer.

Thanks to velojoy for sending Sparkle Pony my way - great story over at their blog too.

Bicycle Advocacy in High Heels....

As an addendum to the last post - I was digging around doing some research on bicycle racks and remembered the ones David Byrne did for NYC.  Wonderful stuff - I'd love to see these heels scattered around Sydney.  His blog and book The Bicycle Diaries, chronicle David's observations and insights as he pedals his way around some of the world's major cities.  He totally gets it.  As Planetizen reviewed his book "Bryne's writings feel like haiku for urbanists".

Bicycle advocacy in high heels?  Adds a whole other dimension to the original Copenhagen Cycle Chic tag-line doesn't it?
