Cycle Chic Sundays Does the Bondi Beach Farmers Market!

A little last minute ride if anyone Bondi way wants to check out the new Bondi Beach Farmers Market opening tomorrow!

We do love a farmers market at Cycle Chic and we're especially happy to have one in our 'hood!

We'll be riding from the Rose Bay Foreshore up to the markets so meet at the start at 10am or meet us at the market - very casual.   It's on rain or shine and we'll ride unless it's bucketing down (entirely likely given this week's weather) - rsvp and leave a message on the Facebook page if you're coming and we'll arrange where to meet.
Check for rain update in the morning if it looks wet!

Market Info here.

Sydney Cycle Chic Does Barcelona!

Well, I can't think of a better way to celebrate our one year anniversary than by spending it with my global Cycle Chic family in Spain, in summer.  From Bondi to Barcelona in one year, just brilliant.

So we'll be taking Sydney Cycle Chic on the road in June to meet up with some of the bloggers from the other official sites.  There'll be a conference, some blogging, some riding, a photo shoot or two and a whole lot of chic.   Can't wait to share it with you.

Viva Barcelona Baby!

The Phantom Rider

It's been a wet old week in Sydney and what with the rain and school holidays, there's been little time to go on the search for chic citizen cyclists.  One has to make do with fleeting moments like this, snapped from the snug warmth of a cafe while escaping the rain.

Those Wolfies Vintage Cruisers

This 1960's Huffy Roadside Cruiser has my name all over it.  I've never been a huge fan of cruisers but boy this collection of classic bikes from Wolfies Cycles is just gorgeous.

Each bike has been beautifully restored by owner Mark Austin and the whole collection will be on display (and for sale) for a few weeks only at Blank Space Gallery in Surry Hills.

They knock socks off the recent plethora of modern beach cruisers - no substitute for originality in my humble opinion so go, look, buy, it's very rare to see so many beautiful vintage bikes in one space.  Felix (age 4) thinks they look like brilliant shiny rockets and he's right.

And hands off the Huffy!

The Amazing Wham-O Wheelie Bar!

Continuing somewhat of a theme for a minute...
This brilliant 1966 TV Commercial was tweeted out by the wonderful Lenore Skenazy from Free Range Kids (@FreeRangeKids) and in my humble opinion needs to be seen by as many parents/non-parents and kids as possible.
I'm a mother, I get it, I don't intentionally put my child's life in danger but I also remember a day when we allowed our kids to live.  To make mistakes, to learn from them, to ride bikes barefoot and yes dammit, to fall off a hurt ourselves occasionally but more importantly to be allowed to live.

So indulge me this little piece of nostalgia and enjoy.

The Joy of Dinking

There is nothing quite like the feeling of little arms holding tight around your waist while they shake with laughter and squeal with joy - remember when this was reversed and it was you on the back of your parent's bicycle??

Nothing changes.

Mad Men on Their Bicycles

The suit and cycle.

Ok so a friend tweeted me this link today from the Substantive Style tumblr page, an homage to sartorial men in suits - nice way to start April. One particular comment caught my attention.
"John Slattery....reaffirming my lolita-esque attraction to older men since 2007".

Couldn't have said it better myself. Am still searching for a photograph of Kevin Mcloud on his orange Brompton. Anyone?
